Think I was optimistic and energized when I wrote I would post 13 different “KBIS Highlights” because as many might remember..I thought KBIS was not so hot this year. But now, I am ready to move on to other fun topic so am wrapping it up over next few days with the rest of the “finds in my file”! Please weigh in and let me know what you think and if I missed something “hot”!
Blanco Sinks
Aside from the fact that they need new website design, I really like Blanco sinks. I spent a lot of time at KBIS playing touchy feely with the displays and have to say that Blanco is probably my favorite. I like Oliveri Sinks also and they have a better site but right now it is all about Blanco.
My fave sink material: siligranit. What is not to love here?

Hanstone
I have covered quartz ad nauseum but let me just say that I think Hanstone is an up and comer and will be challenging Caesarstone and Silestone, the bad boys of quartz before too long. Why? Because the colors they were “testing” on KBIS attendees were hits. Not all of them but several were terrific. Enough so, that I spent more than my allotted 14 minutes in their booth. I like many ( not all) of their colors and while not “just new”, the Tiffany Grey is superb.

They had 3 new “test” colors I liked as well. Indian Pearl, Grigio, and Sabbia. Roll ‘em out Mr. Hanstone…am ready to spec!

I am an absolute sucker for any kind of one-basin sink that has a cutting board. Although, just sitting here thinking about it, I suppose you could pretty much just buy or make a cutting board and slap on the sink you have now! But, really, the people who give it some thought, as Blanco has with their Performa and SteelArt lines, have come up with some really slick concepts.
Whenever you chop anything, water becomes involved, either during or after the process, and often both, so the idea of having a cutting board that is an integral part of the sink itself is such a brilliant idea that it really takes on elements of pure genius. The other part of the equation for people like myself with a ridiculously small kitchen is that it provides a right-sized, convenient food preparation area. We could use it, and my mother-in-law could REALLY use it!
I often sing the blues about working in my mother-in-law’s kitchen, but if there is any kind of afterlife I have to think I’m building up some serious points. The problem is that her kitchen was laid out by a moron, so there is pretty much nothing in the way of food preparation area. My mother-in-law is very short, so she does all of her work on a freestanding chopping block that is a bit low for a six footer like myself. But, man, if we just had a sink from Blanco, we’d be set pretty much. The kitchen would still be too small, but something like those sinks would be an absolute godsend.
The other thing, as you pointed out, is just the design and materials of Blanco’s sinks. I don’t know if I would necessarily call them sexy… no wait a minute, the wife and me driving home after a bout in the mother-in-law’s kitchen WITHOUT sore backs… Man, that’s sexy!
