IF you must use oak, consider white oak or a rifted white oak as seen below in a pantry we did last year. (yes, it really is just a pantry but as big as my kitchen) Thanks goes to Paul, a fellow designer who made me chuckle tonight over one of his blogs about an oak kitchen. Read it but be warned, it is not for the feint of heart!!

We used sliding doors in the pantry as the island made aisles smaller so this helped with passage space

I love this pantry. What kind of sliding hardware did you use on the sliding doors? The cabinetry’s gorgeous too. Who made it? So many questions! I’d love to see a whole post dedicated to the story of how this pantry came to be. You do really beautiful work.
Thanks Paul! The cabinetry is custom made to my specifications by my cabinetman. He is really talented craftsman. The glides came from Hafele..I think. Been too long!The adjacent kitchen had no upper cabinets at all thus the need for a highly functional pantry. Additionally, the client entertained on a regular basis so this is staging area for caterers to keep out of “real” kitchen…which as you know, is where everyone at a party gathers! It works very well for this client as she is also a gourmet cook and half of that pantry is imported salts! Can you imagine!!?? Thanks for the kind words!
I had a hunch that that it was Hafele, is there anything they don’t make? Telling stories about the rooms in my “keeper” file is one of the great joys of my career. It sounds like we have that in common!

Actually, it is just a container with lid. An interesting container but just a container she found at an antique store! Nothing is even in it!!!
Thank you! It is about the same size as my own kitchen!:) But she is a true cook and she loves it….and we have no upper cabinets anywhere in the main kitchen so this was really needed!–cheryl
